Welcome to Grade 11

Our Essential Question- What do I need?

Themes and Goals

Our goal for Grade 11 students is to discover more about "What do I need?" through the combination of core courses and exploratory options. As students transition into grade 11 the differentiation between post secondary choices starts to influence programming more.

Grade 11 students at W.H. Croxford must be enrolled in a 20 level English, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science. The choices include ELA 20-1/2, Social Studies 20-1/2, Mathematics 20-1, 2, 3 or Mathematics 24, and Science 20 or 24, Biology 20, Physics 20, and Chemistry 20. As well, students must enrol in exploratory options to fill their schedule. Of note, students in grade 11 are not permitted spares.

Daily Structure

A day in the life of a grade 11 student at W.H. Croxford includes four 75 minute blocks of classes. Depending on the course selections chosen by students, their day will be a combination of core courses and options.

In addition to the four regular blocks of class time, all students at W.H. Croxford participate in a 40 minute self-directed Focus block. This block allows students an opportunity to access teachers in areas of passion as well as need. Teachers offer tutorial time, study hall, and interest areas such as wellness breaks in the gym and fitness center, peer mentoring, Yoga, Dance, Art studio time, Music recording time, Salon assistance in the Cosmetology space, and much more. The goal for this time is for students to understand where they need help and pursue it. If they are on top of their work academically, this can be a chance to spend time in an area of interest.

As well, once a week, students spend 30 minutes in their Teacher Advisory groups. These multi-graded groups are a chance for students to check in with their Teacher Advisor on their academic progress as well as sign up for Focus blocks for the week. Student feedback surveys are administered during Teacher Advisor as well as announcements made. A goal at W.H. Croxford is for Teacher Advisors to connect relationally with their students and be the 'go to person' in the building if students or parents have questions or concerns.
