Airdrie Minor Basketball Association

Recognizes the accomplishments of students who have participated in Airdrie Minor Basketball.  One award each to a male and female player. Award is $500.00 each.  Application deadline is February 28 of the current school year.

Johnathan Dockman Award

Optimist Scholarship - Next Step Scholarship Award

Open to graduating grade 12 students and students who graduated in the last two years and are either completing a gap year or first year of post-secondary.  Past or present winners of the Johnathan Dockman award are not eligible for this award.

The applicant must be accepted into a recognized post-secondary institution for the upcoming school year.  Applicants must submit a letter of introduction to the Optimist Club of Airdrie to introduce themselves and to present their portfolio.

Airdrie and District Agricultural Society Scholarships

Awarded to a grade 12 student who has graduated from a Airdrie High School within twelve months of their graduation.  Award goes toward first year post secondary studies only.  Based on the average of the student's grade 12 marks, extracurricular activities and an essay on volunteerism.  Two scholarships available at $1 000.00 each.  Deadline to apply is September 15 - after graduation.  For more information, please go to the Airdrie Agriculture Society

Cory Liss Orthodontics Dedication to Education Scholarship

Awarded primarily based on merit as determined by a Selection Committee, to a student graduating from a high school in Airdrie, Beiseker or Crossfield with a minimum average of 65% in English, Social Studies and Science-based diploma exam courses.  Must have applied to a Canadian post secondary program to pursue a minimum post secondary diploma qualification in their chosen field at the time of application for the scholarship and be attending the program at the time of payment of the scholarship.  To apply, students must demonstrate in a 500 - 600 word essay, a commitment to their current and planned educational focus, including effective leadership, a strong work ethic, demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, how he or she is a team player and is giving of his or her time to the community.  Other criteria will be considered, such as an obvious and unequivocal need for financial assistance. Applicants must provide two reference letters or recommendations for teachers, instructors or community members.  The value of the scholarship is $2000 and the deadline to apply is May 15.

Applicants must be Canadian Citizens in their final year of high school applying to University of Guelph - hotel & Food Admin.  Ryerson University - Hospitality & Tourism Management.  University of Calgary - B Com Tourism & Hospitality Management.  Mt. St. Vincent University - Tourism & Hospitality Management.  University of New Brunswick; based on academics, work experience, extracurricular activities, letters of reference.  Financial need will also be considered.  Deadline depends on what school student is applying to.  Awards range from $1 000.00 to $3 250.00 each.

Burger Kind Scholars Program

Criteria: specified minimum grade average (67%) and working part-time an average of 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year.  Place of employment does not have to be Burger King.  Demonstrated participation in community services and/or co-curricular activities.  Demonstrated financial need.  700 awards at $1 000.00 each.  Deadline to apply is January 10 of the current school year.  For more information please visit Burger King

Top 20 Under 20

Must be under the age of 20 as of December 31 and have a record of innovation, leadership and achievement, of meeting personal challenges, and of making a difference in school or the larger community.  Look for the application form in October, deadline is January 22 - details in the Career Centre.  Sponsored by the Airdrie Optimist Club.

Future Aces Foundation

Lauraine Douchet Masonic Bursary for Pharmacy and Medicine

This bursary is available to Canadian citizens residing in the Province of Alberta or North West Territories.  It is intended to assist students whose parents (or family) are in financial need and unable to finance post secondary education in Pharmacy and/or Medicine in the Province of Alberta.  This bursary is offered through the Masonic Higher Education

RBC Scholarship for Undergraduates

Don Moore Scholarship Award

The Alberta Association of Recreation Facility Personnel sponsors this scholarship.  The award is available to an Alberta student completing any year of studies in any recognized post-secondary education institution within the province.  The student must be enrolled in a program offering administrative courses in the operation of recreational facilities.  The student will demonstrate scholastic achievement, as well as personal qualities and character which indicate a promise of success in teh recreation field.  The award is in the amount of $1 500.00.  For more information, please go to Don Moore Scholarship Award.

Grant MacEwan United World Colleges

Eight scholarships for grade 11 Alberta students for two years of International Baccalaureate study at United World Colleges.  Based on academic ability, leadership capability, references and an interview.  Each scholarship is valued at $25 000.00.  For more information, please see Grant MacEwan United World Colleges.

Optimist Club of Airdrie Speech Scholarships

Applicants must be under age 19 as of December 31 and attending grades 10, 11 or 12.  Applicants submit essays on the pre-assigned topic to their local Optimist Club.  The essays are judged at the club level, district level and at the international level.  Scholarship valued up to $5 000.00.  For more information, please go to the Career Centre.

Association of Credit Union Employees and Directors Annual Scholarship Program

For a graduating student who has been a member in good standing at a Credit Union for at least the past year planning to attend an accredited post secondary institution on a full time basis in Canada.  Four awards valued at $750.00 each.  For more information please see the Mrs. Smith in the Career Centre and/or go to Credit Union Employees and Directors Annual Scholarship Program.

Alberta Fish & Game Association

Applicant must be enrolled in a minimum one-year environmental sciences or related program at an accredited Alberta post-secondary institution; applicant or parent must be a member of the Alberta Fish and Game Association; must be 21 years or younger.  Past experience and involvement with AF&G Association or other related interest organizations (ie. University of British Columbia Entrance Scholarships

Simon Fraser University Entrance Scholarships

Commonwealth Essay Competition

The Commonwealth Essay Competition is an international education project open to all young Commonwealth citizens aged 18 or under.  There are four different age classes and each class offers five essay topics.  The aim of the competition is to provide a unique opportunity for schools throughout the commonwealth to take part in global education project.  Commonwealth Essay Competition.

BMO Financial Group Entrance

Awarded annually to students entering an undergraduate degree program at the University of Alberta from high school on the basis of superior academic achievement in grades 10, 11 and 12 and in financial need.  Receipt of funding for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years is contingent upon achieving a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a full normal course load at the University of Alberta each year.  Two awards valued at $20 000.00 over four years.  For more information please contact the registrar at the University of Alberta.

Mount Royal University President's Bursaries

Must be in an appropriate grade 12 program of studies or be a recent graduate within the immediately preceding calendar year.  Must have applied for admission to a full-time program of studies at Mount royal College, be a current student in an Alberta high School.  Students will need to have a minimum average of 755 in five appropriate grade 12 subjects.  Twenty five awards given annually for full tuition and fees for one year plus $1 000.00 for books. Scholastic Distinction Scholarship (UofA)

Applicants must be students entering the University of alberta and have an award average of 95% or higher in grades 10, 11 and 12.  An academic reference and essay are also required.  Award amount varies.  University of Alberta.

Phi Delta Kappa Scholarship Future Educators Association

Applicants must have letters of recommendation, written expression:  interest in a teaching or professional education career; and school and community activities.  Applicants should rank in the upper on-third of their classes.  Over 30 awards valued between $500.00 - $2 00.00.  Future Educators Awards.

RE/MAX "Quest for Excellence" Bursary Awards

RE/MAX of western Canada will award sixteen bursaries in value of $1 000.00 each to qualifying grade 12 students. Students are to convey the contributions they have made to their communities in a short online essay, maximum 1,250 words. Key qualities students should demonstrate are leadership, motivation and communication skills. Leadership Awards Program with the University of Alberta

Leonard Foundation Financial Assistance Program

Canadian citizens or permanent residents; enrolment in full-time undergraduate program for first time and pursuing B.Ed. or M. Div.  All applicants will be considered but preference will be given to daughters or sons of ordained clergy, licensed elementary or secondary school teachers, Canadian military personnel, graduates of Canadian Military College, members of the Engineering Institute of Canada and members of the Mining and Mettallurgical Institute of Canada.  140 awards varying in amount from $1 000.00 - $1 500.00.  Leonard Foundation.

Anthem Essay Contest (Ayn Rand)

For students in grade 8, 9 and 10.  Read Ayn Rand's Anthem, choose one of three essay topics and write an essay that is 600 - 1200 words in length.  First place winner receives $2 000.00.  235 other awards varying in amount from $30.00 - $500.00.  Ayn Rand.

Dr. Ed O'Connor Scholarship

This scholarship is for qualified Alberta students to attend St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS for four years of undergrad studies.  Award is in the amount of $5 000.00 per year to a maximum of four years.  Dr. Ed O'Connor Scholarship.

Miller Thomson Foundation Scholarship

Must be attending a Canadian secondary school, planning on entering a Canadian post-secondary institution in the fall to pursue a course of study within Canada leading to a degree or diploma.  Must have maintained a minimum grade average of 87% in Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12.  The candidate's contribution to their school and community will also be evaluated.  100 awards valued at $3 000.00 each.  Miller thomson Foundation Scholarship.

Canadian Chemistry Contest

Is chemistry on of your strengths?  Then test your skills and measure yourself against fellow students who share the same passion.  The Canadian Chemistry Contest (CCC) is carried out in conjunction with the Canadian Chemistry olympiad (CCO) and is open to high school students.  First place = $450.00, 2nd place = $200.00 and third place = $100.00.  For more information please see the career centre.

Harris Steel Entrance Scholarships

Applicants must be admitted to and register at Glendon for full-time studies; high academic standard; be from BC or AB.  Three awards valued at $10 000.00 each.  For more information please see the Career Centre.

Retail as a Career Scholarship Program

This scholarship program is for students enrolled in or who have applied to retail, business or marketing post secondary programs.  To apply for this scholarship, students need to get a reference letter from their current retail employer and write an essay about their interest in the retail sector.  One $5 000.00 scholarship and 26 $1 000.00 industry sponsored scholarship awards available.  Retail as a Career Scholarship Program.

The Colonel Douglas H. Gunter History Awards (Formerly the Canadian War Museum History Awards)

This competition is open to students who will be graduating from secondary school.  To qualify, each student must submit an original work using one of the following media:  Test; Visual Art; Web Design; Audio or Video Production.  Each year, the competition explores a different theme.  Five awards valued at $1 000.00.  Colonel Douglas H. The Fountainhead Essay Contest

Tiessen Foundation Broadcast Scholarship

This award was created to recognize an outstanding Alberta high school student and to encourage and assist them with their post-secondary studies at a broadcast institution in Canada.  One award of $750 annually.  Application is at the ALIS Scholarship website.   Deadline to apply is June 1.

Aboriginal Health Careers Bursary and Scholarship Awards

Available to Canadian Aboriginal residents who are either First Nation status or non-status, Inuit or Metis.  Enrolled as a full-time student at teh post-secondary level in a program of study that is a minimum of two academic years - at an accredited university, college or CEGEP and pursuing a certificate, diploma or degree; there is an exception made for one-year upgrading or certification programs such as nurse practitioner after a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  Awards vary in value.  Aboriginal Health Careers Bursary and Scholarships.

Grant MacEwan Literary Arts Scholarships

Two scholarships are awarded annually for a short story or a literary non-fictional essay that engages Alberta (its history, landscape, culture, etc.) or the spirit of Dr. MacEwan's many interests.  Valued at $5 000.00 each.  Grant MacEwan Literary Arts Scholarships.

Alexander Rutherford Scholarships for High School Achievement

Scholarships are awarded to students earning a minimum average of 75% in five designated subjects in grade 10, 11, and 12.  Must be Alberta resident planning to enroll in a full-time post-secondary program of at least one semester in length.  Amount varies.  Alexander Rutherford Scholarship.

4-H Provincial Scholarship

Must be a past or present member of an Alberta 4-H club.  Enrolled as a full time post secondary student at a recognized institution.  4-H Scholarships.

The Carol Thomson Memorial Fund Scholarship for Students with Learning Disabilities

To recognize an individual with a diagnosed learning disability, who through effort and perseverance is seeking to use his or her potential to its maximum.  To encourage Canadian students with learning disabilities to pursue college, private vocational school or an under-graduate program at a Canadian University.  Valued at $1 000.00.  Carol Thomson Memorial Fund.

Rose Margaret King Merit Awards

ECO Canada Scholarship

Orville Erickson Memorial Scholarship Fund

Len Sager Memorial Award Awareness of Impaired Driving

Presented to Alberta residents in their graduating year who are enrolled in a minimum of three full time courses at a post-secondary institution in Alberta in the term immediately following their graduation.  Candidates must display a commitment to promoting awareness about the problem of impaired driving.  Award is valued at $500.00.  Len Sager Memorial Award.

Mattinson Endowment Fund Scholarship for Disabled Students

Premier's Citizenship Awards

One graduating student from each high school is recognized for outstanding characteristics in the areas of academic ability, leadership in school-sponsored, community or extracurricular activities, volunteering, and a demonstrated willingness to place the good of others above personal ambitions.  Award is a plaque and a letter of commendation.  Premier's Citizenship Award.

Rocky View Teachers' Scholarships (for students graduating with a Certificate of Achievement)

To be awarded to students with an active apprenticeship ID number or entering the first or second year of study in a full time post secondary program.  The award is made on the basis of final grades obtained on 36 credits as specified on application form.  Award varies.  Application available in the Career Centre.

Rocky View Teachers' Scholarships

Must attend a Post-Secondary Program.  Must have an 80% average (totaling 25 credits) in their best grade 12 subjects or advanced 3000 level CTS marks.  One subject must be English 30-1 or 30-2.  Award varies.  Applications available in the Career Centre.

The Alberta Milk Never Stop Scholarship

Two awards; one male and one female award.  Nominated by school.  Must be a grade 12 student registered in an ASAA member school and participate in athletic activities.  This award is for students who achieve a balance in life, participate in school life and have the promise to do great things later in life.  It's for students who will never stop learning, never stop participating and never stop being an active participant in life.  Each award valued at $1000.00.  Alberta Milk Never Stop Scholarship.

The Marlene Streit Golf Scholarships

For a female student who will be graduating from High School and have been accepted to an RCGA Foundation recognized university or college.  You must have been named or will be nambed to the institution's golf team.  You should have had successful experience in competitive golf at regional, provincial or national level prior to application.  Two awards valued at $3000.00 each.  Marlene Streit Golf Scholarships.

The Canadian Seniors Golf Association Scholarships

You are encouraged to apply for the Canadian Seniors' Golf Association if you are a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant and have a minimum average of 70% in the last two years of high school, successful experience in competitive golf at a regional, provincial or national level prior to application; and have been accepted at an RCGA Foundation recognized college or university, and have been named or will be named to the institution's golf team.  Award value $3000.00.  Canadian Seniors Golf Association Scholarship.

OYF Memorial Scholarship

Canada's Outstanding Young Farmers Program offers this annual scholarship to an individual pursuing post secondary education in agriculture.  Award value is $1000.00.  OYF Memorial Scholarship.

1800 Wheelchair Scholarship

Students are required to submit a 500 word essay on the posted topic.  Contest is open to grade 12 students or students at a post secondary institution in Canada.  Two awards available for a value of $500.00 each.  1800 Wheelchair Scholarship.

University of Lethbridge High School Grade 11 Merit Awards

Education for Life Bursary (The Alberta Committee of Citizens with Disabilities - ACCD)

Aboriginal Canadians Scholarship National Union

Open to all Aboriginal Canadian students who plan to enter the first year of a Canadian public post-secondary education institution full-time in 2012 - 2013 and who are the children or foster children of a NUPGE member.  It will be awarded for the best 750 - 1,000 word essay on: The Importance of Quality Public Services in Enhancing the Quality of Life of Aboriginal Canadians.  Award value is $1500.00.

Terry Fox Memorial National Union Scholarship

Winner will be determined on the basis of a 750 - 1000 word essay on:  The Importance of Quality Public Services in Enhancing the Quality of Life of People with disabilities.  All children (including foster children) with disabilities of National Union of Public and General Employees members who plan to enter the first year of a Canadian public post-secondary education institution full-time in 2011-2012 are eligible to apply.  Terry Fox Memorial National Union Scholarship.

Tommy Douglas Scholarship (National Union Scholarship)

Open to all students who plan to enter the first year of a Canadian public post-secondary education institution full-time in the fall and who are the children of or foster children of a National Union of Public and General Employees member.  It will be awarded for the best 750-1000 word essay on "How Tommy Douglas contributed to making Canada a more just and equitable society."  Award value is $1 500.00.

Visible Minorities National Union Scholarship

Candidates are all aboriginal Canadian children (including foster children) of National Union members who plan to enter the first year of a public post-secondary education institution full-time.  Award value is $1500.00.

R.A.P. Scholarships

For students completing the Registered Apprenticeship Program and continuing into the regular apprenticeship program.  Based on marks, recommendation from an employer and a personal essay.  Up to 500 awards available valued at $1000.00 each.  R.A.P. Scholarships.

Roots Scholarship

You must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant to Canada and planning to register as a full-time student in September at a recognized Canadian University, Community College, Technical Institute or other post-secondary institution for advanced learning.  Judges are looking for someone who has demonstrated high ideals and qualities of citizenship, and has not received a bursary from Cosmoda Corporation.  Five scholarships of $1000.00.  Roots Scholarship.
